Oct 2018 from Janet - Candy Corn Lettering

I asked Janet about this lettering. At the time, she said she did it from memory - and she also sent a scan of another envelope to somebody else that she had done when she did have an exemplar in front of her. I think her *from memory* one is better than the original one - but now I can't find that image.

It is comforting to know that I am not the only person who loses images.

I love this lettering. The image of the witch is so perfect.

Maybe someday I can do my version of this lettering - this post is going to get a reminder label.
Or 4 labels - since I have 4 labels that are general reminders to return to ideas.

Maybe I should make a note-to-self to do some editing of my labels and create some consistency.

And there are two of those - one with hyphens and one without. Lable. Lable rhymes with table. Why are they spelled differently?

My *faults* could be so much worse.

I found this image that Janet sent to show me what the first round of lettering looked like - the round where she had an exemplar. I'm guessing you'll all agree with me that her *memory* version is better. This adds credence to my theory that starting with a rip-off and then letting it morph into your own thing is a nifty way to come up with ideas. The idea that you'll just close your eyes and really great stuff will pop into your brain is an idea - but people who are labeled *creative* hardly ever use eye-closing to come up with good ideas. And people who sit there looking at a blank wall and wonder when the good ideas will start appearing out of nowhere are probably going to be disappointed when nothing pops up out of nowhere.

Nov 2018 PTEX to Chuck - hatching + Mr. Wilson's Birthday

Chuck is a master of fine lines so I thought I'd do some sketchy ones. I do not have the patience that Chuck has. That's not true. I have some obligations that prevent me from having the time to devote to the kinds of lines that Chuck makes. It is possible I will do some serious Chuck-style-appropriation.

I am not crazy about the black stitching - but I do like the overall design. It was certainly fun to do.

I can't remember if the name for little lines is hatching. If you cross them, they are cross hatching. But is seems like there is a different word for the little lines....maybe it will come to me.

I reshot many of the Nov envelopes after I had the addresses on. It's more work to block out the addresses, but I'd rather give an impression of how the finished envelope looks.

Personal note to Mr. Wilson - added on Feb 3rd after you opened the Cheerio card:
If you (George) are researching why you received a reference to Cheerios - and found this post - please be advised that it is a scathing post, fueled by my morning coffee. My readers know that I lapse into silliness and poke all kinds of fun at my family. If it's a problem, you should start your own blog and write all kinds of retaliatory posts. I'm sure they would love reading them. In fact - just send your offerings to me and I will post them on my blog. I know that the number of quirks I possess far out-number yours.

Mr. Wilson's birthday is a week from today. If you are going to sign up for the February exchange - you could go ahead and send him a birthday envelope this week and it will count as your February envelope to me. It is a huge sacrifice for me to offer up the Feb slot to Mr. Wilson. He has been a repeat offender in no-food-in-the-living-room rule.* But, he has been trying hard on some of the other rules, and really does enjoy getting mail. Especially in February, the most pitiful month of the year.

Here is my problem. If people send him a special birthday envelope, then I miss out on the really cool idea they had for everyone else. So, if you want to show me how much you love the exchange, you may send me an image of the design you come up with for February. Just send an image that you sent to someone else - and I will blot out the address.

Better yet - don't do anything special for his birthday - just send whatever your Feb design is. That would be easy. And I am sure he won't care if the envelopes are late. It's just as fun to have your mail spaced out.

*P.S. To be clear about one thing, I am not the one who cares about food in the living room. Mr. Wilson is the one who grew up with a mom who put housekeeping above E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. else. She was in good company. My mom was the same way. Although my mom lived in a primitive dwelling during the dust bowl, so that explained why she was traumatized by dust. But, the MIL grew up on the east coast - and I'm not sure what caused her affliction.

I'm just noting that Mr. Wilson came with some unrealistic expectations on housekeeping and I would not have any problem at all with the whole program if he could/would just keep his food contained. In fairness, he is a powerhouse when it comes to cleaning and tidiness. But, he has some kind of mental block about food and I find it in the most obnoxious places. Maple syrup hiding on the inside of the fridge handle. AAAARRRggghhhh. Perpetual stickiness on the faucet handle. Peanut butter on the floor. Cheerios under his desk. And what kind of maniac will use a gas range as a breadboard when they toast their English muffin? Sorry. It's been a rough week.  I manage these daily events by recalling the fact that he was willing to clean up any and all bodily fluid deposits made by the kids. Oh.My.Gosh. That's gonna be quite a chapter in my memoir. Note-to-self -- post that really pretty award I made for him after the gallon of barbeque sauce incident.

From Marti to Rainbow + Me to RP

Marti sent the one on the top and I was messing around with that font that appears on the bottom.

The way Marti used different colors for each letter makes me want to re-do mine and use different colors.



There is no rhyme or reason to the order of the Rainbow envelopes. They will keep popping up on Sundays and then there will be a good chunk of them in late Dec.

Sorry if I have said this too many times. I'm cautiously optimistic that come Jan 1st, things will be more orderly.

off topic - clothes

i think i posted a purse that looks like an envelope a long time ago. but i am pretty sure i have never posted anything about clothing. i like clothes but have never had time to build an interesting wardrobe. i have a bland, neutral pile of clothes that are a blank slate - with a couple interesting sweaters. i'd be a good candidate for vintage clothing, but again, no time.

i was surfing and came across a blog that amazed me with the number of items that were exactly my style. but all the clothes were these huge, oversized, items that you see on people who are at gallery openings. i refuse to dress like that, even though the clothes look comfortable.

anyhow, this is issey miyake from 1977 - and it reminds me of an envelope. it looks like the perfect coat to wear if you are going to be on a long flight, it would be a cozy blanket. or, if you were at any kind of gathering that was not keeping you awake, you could just excuse yourself and go take a nap.

note to self: incorporate more mail in your wardrobe. postage stamp pockets. anyone else have some good ideas?

i had so much fun doing these. not sure how many i did. not sure if this kind of stuff inspires other to try it. i suspect it looks complicated, but it is not.

You can buy iron on transfer paper at any office supply store.

You can go to a digital sign maker and depending on how many options they stock, you can have them print images on canvas or Tyvek. There are different weights of each.

mr. scanner is having issues today. so here is a link to a website addressing the closing of post offices. my mom has been worried that if the post office goes out of business, i will not have a job. but, it might be easier to not have the option to actually mail anything. or we could hand deliver things. she likes to go on trips.

if you click the button, you can see photos and stories about post offices that are in danger of closing. i wish they would just switch postal delivery to fewer days. and see if that would work. seems like an easy enough thing to try.

because jackie and i were strictly penpals for a couple years, before we ever met in person...i'm wondering if we should post our story. we probably won't. but, i should get around to writing it down for my own blog. i'll stick a label of note to self on here. i wonder if i already have this note, noted....
