March to Ben, Hadley & Rachael - Haring warm ups

Here are the warm up envelopes for the Keith Haring stamps.
As mentioned previously, Kate did a good job on her little guys.
I think I penciled the ones on Ben's and thought that would be enough practice. I know I have seen footage of Keith Haring drawing his little figures - and he draw them in really fast. Obviously, he had a ton of practice.

These two didn't show any potential - so they are one-offs. I blanked on something that would have been nice on Rachael's - adding the little dash marks. Do they have a name? Rays?

When I was doing the borders along the top, I tried a 3-sided border. Those flowers were much harder to imitate than I imagined. I used markers. Actual watercolor would have been better. The whole thing just feels clunky. Deep regrets that I keep forgetting my vow to stop-doing-caps-on-scripts. Grrrrrr. If you are not a calligrapher, you probably think that addressing looks fine.

It has a very untrained look to it. I like untrained script - but this is not untrained. It is *used to be trained and then got rusty.* Big difference. I need to try writing with my non-dominant hand and see if I can come up with an untrained style that is legit.

  1. I like these - particularly how you did Ben's name. I found shorter first names easier on my envelopes.
