Finnbadger in DEC + neolucida

It was nice to hear from Finnbadger in Dec. We go way back - and one of his specialities is the hand made envelope. I never get tired of mentioning that his interest in penmanship was minimal when he first started sending mail - and little by little it snuck into his brain and coaxed him into trying some various styles of lettering. Go ahead a search *Finnbadger* on the blog if you want to see some very fun stuff.

I took note of the company from whence the card came and enjoyed visiting their website: Peter Pauper  https://www.peterpauper.com/  I love that name - and the story behind why it was chosen - they simply wanted to provide reasonably priced paper products. They also publish books.

Some of us have heard about the various tools that the old masters had to help create the basic drawings for their paintings. If you imagine artwork prior to the renaissance - it does not have the same realistic appearance that is evident in renaissance art.

These aids to drawing are controversial because it looks like cheating. I'm not sure I could even begin to explain my perspective. I might try tomorrow. For now, I will just offer the link so that you can check it out if you are interested. I would buy one in a minute - if I was a youngster.

I can't figure out how to leave a reply to the comment below - asking me why I can't buy a neolucida - it's a combination of already having way too many art supplies coupled with the fact that I do not actually spend much time making art any more. It would be fun to see one and try it out - but, I'm sure I wouldn't actually put on to good use. Maybe if one of my grandkids becomes a budding artist I'll have an excuse to gift a neolucida to them.

I'm also going to spend some time figuring out how to leave a comment....I know others have trouble with that.....

  1. Comments can be a pain at blogger, can't they?

Nice to see this again - the card is fun, bought in 2021 I think. One of my long-term goals is to decrease the number of unsent Christmas cards in my hoard.

    1. Me, too. Not only do I have a hoard of CHristmas cards, I have all the other kinds, too. And worst of all - I have the cards I have collected that were sent to 420 - that were too cute to toss - so I re-cycle them to people I know who do not mind recycled cards.

  2. Oh.My.Gosh. I actually remembered how to leave a comment -- I have been telling other people - and of course, I forgot when I needed to do it myself. You have to be in Google-land-browser. I forget all about browsers -- Google likes to keep us all tuned in to them - so if someone tries to leave a comment from Safari or Firefox or Dingdong or whatever -- they just send people on an endless loop of confusion. So - for today -- I can remember how to leave a comment. Yippeee!!

    1. Google Chrome - is what I should have written - in place of Google-land browser. I can never think of that word. It doesn't have anything to do with the internet.

  3. Neolucida looks like an electric camera obscura to me.
