this is a practice page from jackie placed on a black sheet of paper. she did find some really good nesting material and put it behind the cut out section. somewhere i have a photocopy of her winning entry which i will find and post. it was really beautiful. the deadline to enter this year is april 30. google graceful envelope for details and to see lots of past winners.

The finished winning envelope is posted on the 2002 graceful envelope page...Jacqueline Davis...?what was the nesting material?
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry I didn't see this comment sooner. The nesting material was something I found at a fabric store. Pretend nest, I guess, and definitely not archival. I pulled it apart and stuffed some of it into the envelope. I made the envelope by folding a piece of Rives lightweight paper, and used acrylic gel medium as glue. I think if I'd thought about the possibility of my work actually being accepted, I might have been more careful, but at the time I was free of those kinds of concerns. When I wrote to Jean, with the above rough draft enclosed, I believe I referred to my entry as the "Disgraceful Envelope." It was all in fun.
ReplyDeleteand all this time, i thought you were out climbing trees and borrowing from the birds...
ReplyDeletethank you jackie
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Katy. I am merely an admirer and observer of nests - I wouldn't want to mess up the birds' artwork. Good heavens, I wonder how many people thought I was borrowing from birds when what I was really doing was trying to think like one?
