(8) Oct to Maggie - Spritz recipe

The border with Maggie's name and address had been inked in for a very long time and was found hiding in the folder of postage stamps. There was a different idea penciled in for the flowers - different flowers - but I have no idea which stamp I was intending to use so I tried a loose interpretation of the design on this stamp. Without the cancel - the layout is a little off - so I am counting on the USPS to run it through with a nice cancel that adds to the design. The blackness of the curly border bothers me. I wish it was blue - but - the clearing out of orphan stamps and half-done envelopes is a good thing. I'm expecting waves of creativity to be flooding my little desk - now that it is tidy.

Finally - here's the Spritz recipe. My alternative follows.

You will want the butter and the egg at room temperature. I like to use the food processor, but an electric mixer is fine.

The dough is soft enough to go through a press. If I want to bake them right away, I use a small cookie scoop and then flatten the scoop with a fork. Or if I want to bake them later, I form the dough into a cylinder wrapped in waxed paper and chill until firm and then slice and bake.

Moisten the slices so the decorative sugar will stick. An alternative to sugar is after they are baked and cooled, brush with a glaze made of powdered sugar. Start with a half cup of sugar and add a 1/2 teaspoon of corn syrup. Then add enough water to make a glaze consistency. You can add vanilla to the glaze if you are ambitious.

Here is my 2019 blog post with the photo of a gravestone - which has the recipe - because the family of the deceased wanted her to be remembered for her cookies.

The post includes one of my mushy thank yous to my pen pals.

I use the 1.5 tablespoon size. You could go abstract and just scoop lumps with a regular spoon - although - if they aren't all exactly the same size they may not bake evenly.
