off topic - envelope surfing

i'm liking this off topic every sunday - only this isn't really off topic. i was surfing and found a link that i can't figure out - but it has a bunch of links to a wide range of envelopes

some are very traditional others are wonky.

i wish i could send envelopes with string tied around them. the p.o. will not even allow string tied around regular packages any more. i bet there are a ton of youngsters who have never even seen a brown paper package tied up with string.

i like the way the name is slightly larger and the line spacing is very tight. it's a lovely layout.

  1. I also dearly miss brown paper packages tied up with string.

  2. Do you know if you can send a letter with a wax seal?

    1. yes, wax seals are fine, but they are frequently broken and fall off when the envelopes go through the machines. there are different kinds of wax. some are more brittle than others. i don't know if some work better than others. i have never received an envelope with the wax intact. they just have an odd circular stain where the wax seal had been.

  3. Jean, here is another off-topic post idea. I'd like to know how you and others adjust your designs to accommodate the extra postage for foreign mailings. Maybe you could just throw the question out there, and everyone could respond with their suggestions or ideas.

    1. the easiest way is to use three of the same stamps. although you are wasting 27-cents. my nov mail to the foreign countries used 3 snowflakes and they looked great. otherwise, you have to find colors you like in vintage stamps. or use the international mail stamps. i'll try to insert a new post about this.

    2. That's what I do as well, and it's no problem about the post - I just thought if you were looking for an idea for a post, that might work.

As you said - adding extra stamps of the stamps I plan to use is my usual fix. My problems come in when I have to use 2 of each stamp for each envelope, and I've purchased only 20 (short-sighted on my part) and suddenly before mailing, I realize I needed like 4 more! LOL I'm relatively new to the exchange and my old mind is having some serious delay in catching up to the concept of foreign mailings!

For the Nov mailing I had to alter my design to accommodate more stamps - not really a problem, but I just thought if others had come up with a clever idea(s), I could keep them in mind when dealing with the foreign envelopes! Thanks!
