there was a specific stamp in mind for this one - it was from a series - i think they were the black and white stamps about manufacturing. another project in the never-to-be-finished-morgue. although, maybe there should be a celebratory place. maybe unfinished things are just as noble/enlightened/illustrious/satisfying. maybe finishing things is completely over-rated.
your thoughts?
I have a small drawer full of "orphan" quilt blocks. Some are wonderful, some are very average. Noble indeed, but who knows their eventual fate?
ReplyDeleteburial shroud :-)
ReplyDeleteyou have inspired me to create my own burial shroud - made of paper.
thanks so much for taking time to comment
My thoughts are.....creative/interesting/fun people have lots of projects both finished and unfinished. Some of the unfinished are stepping stones to bigger and better things. I inherited boxes of my grandma's (seamstress/baker/crafter) unfinished projects. Maybe I'll get to those miniature sock monkeys in all states of finish and maybe I won't, but I'll never want for something to do! Projects allow you to put off doing the things other people think you should be doing. My motto is, "I'd hate to die tomorrow and have spent my last day cleaning."
ReplyDeleteAwesome motto!
DeleteAlong those lines - my motto: Boring women live in immaculate houses.
Deletei need to update that motto to:
Deleteboring people live in immaculate houses.
we are way past the era of housework being just for the women, eh?
I absolutely live by that motto! However, there are exceptions to that rule. My mother's house has always been immaculate, and she is anything but boring - trust me! Her immaculate habit did NOT rub off on me, thank goodness!
DeleteFirst, I love the idea for this envelope! I too have quilt squares cut out 35+ years ago with the intention of making a quilt. Maybe one day it will get done, but I agree with Christy that all of these crafty endeavors spur the creative juices and use our mind.....much more so than cleaning!
ReplyDeleteThe Metropolitan Museum in NY agrees with you about unfinished things needed a celebratory space and has an exhibition going on right now :)

And an article that goes into a bit more detail - http://www.metmuseum.org/press/exhibitions/2016/unfinished
thank you for sharing this. so validating to know that the crazy thoughts that run through my scattered-brain are worthy of big-time exhibits.
DeleteYou're welcome :)
DeleteSome of my favorite pieces in museums are the pencil sketches and small renderings that preceded and hang next to that famous piece of art. More words of wisdom......don't throw anything away......guilty again.
ReplyDeletei guess it depends on the size of your house. if i did not throw things away, i would be camping in the yard.
