from guest artist walsh - blue

i don't know how she does these.i think she might have a bunch of letters cut out that she can use over and over. they might have something like Post-It adhesive on the back, so they stick to the envelope and then she does a layer of color with sponges and then removes the stencil.
the p.o. didn't cancel the stamps, so somebody took their ballpoint pen to it. sad.

  1. I have a few of Elizabeth's lovely mail art pieces in my own collection, happily free of this ball point pen scrawl. I have to say, of all the ways the post office could collaborate, this thing they do is my least favorite. Is there something we can do differently to discourage it, aside from quitting mail or resorting to hand-delivering letters ourselves?

  2. taking the envelopes to the post office for hand cancelling is the best option. the envelope may go through the machine and get a second cancel but two regular cancels is preferable to a ball point pen. i know they will cancel the postage on an envelope and then put it in a priority envelope, with a window and add the additional postage due for priority....but that's $19.95.
steep price to pay to avoid the ballpoint pen, eh?

  3. Now I remember. Carrier pigeons are also a possibility.

  5. Also, Pony Express, though I can't advise trying to mail Johnny Depp on a horse. He will fall off.
