another uncial option

another whimsical variation of uncial to see if scarlet can warm up to it.

hard to find the right stamp to go with this one. all my ZIG calligraphy markers are pretty dry. i layered uniball silver and then G-Tec colors over the top

READ the post below - if you signed up for the envelope exchange for a few additional details.
thank you.

  1. I love this lettering! I've been playing with versals as of late, trying to get the courage up to try them. I've never been a good paper and pencil artist, so I'm trying my hand at digital zentangle type versals. My idea is to pen their outlines in Illustrator, then give a little digital watercolor to them and perhaps finish them off with hand applied details. I'm not at all sure how this will work out, but it's something I'm dabbling with.

Also, has anyone actually sewn on their envelopes? I'm sure someone out there has, but I'm curious how it makes it through the mailing process. I've ordered up some sew ribbon supplies and would like to give it a try - anyone have hints or tips? I'm trying very hard to move from total digital mail art to finding other artistic ways of adding detail.

    1. Hi Rehj, sorry I cannot find a blog of yours to reply to your comment on my blog. Yes I have received sewn stuff through the mail sent to me from overseas, they just hand cancel it. Just reinforce the envelope with a thicker cardboard inside. What an interesting concept. I also received one that was put into a plastic envelope and the stamp was attached outside on the plastic, that came through as well

  2. there are lots of people who stitch on envelopes. the main thing is to make your stitches rather large. if the stitches are too small (close together) the paper will tear on the perforation.

if you google: sewing on envelopes, you will see many examples. to make outlined versals, take any font and set it to print in outline and -voila- you have versals.

dafont.com has some fonts that are versals DeRoos caps under Celtic, under Gothic is one

  3. I am being spoilt here!!
I've sewn on paper - because I was using thick paper - almost card, I punched the paper through with a pin before using the needle and thread. Using this method I also had perfectly spaced stitches :-)

  4. Thanks to all for the info and ideas! Although I have a sewing machine, I have found a neat thread and ribbon sewing system from We R Memories that I'm going to try to use on some envelopes which require stitching by hand. At night hubby wants me to watch TV with him - usually stuff I'm not too interested in, so the hand stitching would give me something other than awful TV to occupy my time!
