kathy no 8

while most of the envelopes in the kathy series are addressed to kathy at 430 east ohio in ames iowa, a few have other addresses. this one has a much longer address that was fairly close to her actual address at the time. it was a long address and since this set of envelopes was hand delivered, it did not matter if the addresses were correct, hence, the east ohio, ames, iowa address. i would not expect the postal workers to deliver an envelope that looks like this. however, it would be fine to address it this way and then have a little

*translation* down in the lower right hand corner. if you look closely, the little strokes are the correct strokes to spell out words, they are just in an unexpected order.

there was a time when i challenged the postal workers. i would scatter the information all over the face of the envelope. these days, i keep the street and zip near the bottom. the city state does not matter as much. if you have the street and zip correct, the letter will go through. to test this, a friend of mine once sent me an envelope with three numbers on it. i live on a numbered street, so the top line had my house number and the street number. the bottom number had my zip code. there was no name, no city and no state and it arrived with no problem. i even asked my letter carrier what he thought of it and he just shrugged and said, "Looks fine to me, that's all we needed to know."
