envelope No. 6

the *kathy* series of envelopes was done for fun. i did not use any guide lines, i rarely did a practice run. i simply took markers and whipped out the first idea that came to me after i looked at the stamp. in other words, this is a layout. what i see that is working pretty well is the flourishing. i like the intersections and all the major stems seem to be pretty parallel. what i was not focusing on and what suffered as a consequence was each letter in the name. the *c* in schneider is too big and the *d* is way too small. we could find many




more problems with the lettering but that is not the point of this blog. the point is fun. which brings us to stamp placement. most people assume that it is mandatory that the stamp go in the upper right corner. some postal workers will insist that you must place the stamp in that corner. technically, if you apply the proper amount of postage and if the envelope is in a landscape orientation and if the address line and zip code are horizontal and legible, the envelope will reach its destination. if the scanning machines cannot read the address and cannot detect a stamp, the envelope will be rerouted to a human being who will find the address, verify that there is a stamp on the envelope and then send it on its way.
